On March 19, 1980, 44-year-old Jeanne Marie Scrima disappeared after leaving Erie, Pennsylvania, to drive back to her home in Knox, New York. She was a mother of four and in the middle of divorce proceedings with her second husband, John Scrima. At the time of her disappearance, Jeanne was involved in an affair with a man named John Sidney. Just two days prior, on March 17, she and Sidney had traveled to Erie for his work, with Jeanne telling her husband she was visiting loved ones. During the trip, a phone call with her sister revealed that her husband had discovered the affair. This prompted Jeanne to cut the trip short, promising her children she would be home when they returned from school on the afternoon of the 19th. She was last seen that morning, driving her light blue 1977 Lincoln Continental. Authorities believe she made it back to her farmhouse that afternoon, but she has not been seen or heard from since. The investigation into Jeanne's disappearance began after her own attorney reported her missing on May 4, 1980, when he could not get in contact with her. Her husband, John Scrima, never filed a missing person's report. Jeanne's boyfriend, John Sidney, cooperated fully with the investigation and was cleared as a suspect after passing a polygraph test. In contrast, John Scrima refused to speak with authorities and hired a lawyer shortly after his wife was reported missing. In 1981, he sold the family's farmhouse and moved. Several weeks after she vanished, Jeanne's Lincoln Continental was reportedly seen in Montgomery County, New York. The vehicle was eventually discovered abandoned in Michigan on October 5, 1980. Investigators determined the car had passed through several owners in Ohio before being left in Michigan, and no evidence related to Jeanne's whereabouts was found inside. Foul play is suspected in her case, but no arrests have ever been made. The New York State Police continue to investigate her disappearance. The case remains a troubling mystery, centering on a woman who vanished from her own home after her turbulent marital life came to a head. The lack of evidence from her recovered vehicle and the silence from key individuals have left her family without answers for decades.
