On December 13, 2004, a 26-year-old Native American male named Stephan Mitchell Adams vanished from Tahlequah, Oklahoma. A student at Northeastern State University, Stephan had just completed a final exam that morning. At approximately 11:00 a.m., he spoke with his girlfriend on the phone, telling her the exam went well and that he was giving a man a ride to Keys, Oklahoma. This was the last time anyone is known to have heard from him. Shortly after this call, attempts to reach Stephan went unanswered, with his phone ringing once before going to voicemail and subsequent calls going directly to voicemail. He was reportedly seen between 11:30 a.m. and noon at a convenience store in Cookson, Oklahoma, where he appeared agitated and upset. He purchased a soda, stood outside for a few minutes, and then left alone in his white 1995 GMC pickup truck. Neither Stephan nor his vehicle have been seen since. Stephan's disappearance was immediately considered suspicious by authorities. He was in the midst of a contentious, two-year-long custody battle with his ex-wife over their daughter. A significant court hearing regarding the custody arrangement was scheduled for just a few days after he went missing, a timing that investigators do not believe to be a coincidence. In the weeks following his disappearance, Stephan's family reportedly received a threatening phone call from an unknown individual, warning them to stop the investigation. All of his personal belongings, including money and his asthma inhaler, were left behind, and there has been no activity on his credit cards or cell phone since the day he vanished. The investigation into Stephan Adams's disappearance has spanned years, yet remains unsolved. Authorities have sought to identify a man who was seen at a Dollar General store near Stephan's apartment on the morning he went missing, believing he may have information pertinent to the case. This individual, described as a white male between 40 and 50 years old at the time, was seen loitering for several hours before leaving around the time Stephan disappeared. While not officially named a suspect, investigators feel he could provide crucial details. The custody dispute remains a central focus of the investigation, with foul play strongly suspected. Despite the passage of time, the case remains open, leaving his family with unanswered questions about the fate of the young father who was working towards an engineering degree.
