In the spring of 1986, a 23-year-old title researcher named Hazel Alice Klug, who often went by her middle name, Alice, was living in the Crestview area of Richmond, Virginia. On the evening of May 20th, she had an hour-long telephone conversation with a co-worker she was dating, ending the call around 11:30 p.m. The conversation was described as normal, with no indication that anything was wrong. The following day, May 21st, Hazel did not show up for her job at a local law firm, which was uncharacteristic of her. This absence prompted a police visit to her home in the 6800 block of Horsepen Road. Upon entering Hazel's residence, investigators found a scene that was both ordinary and alarming. Her car was parked at the house, and her beloved dog was also present. Authorities have noted that she was very fond of her dog and would not have willingly left without arranging for its care. Inside, nearly all of her personal belongings, including clothing, makeup, and jewelry, were undisturbed. However, two key items were missing: her purse and a large suitcase or military-style trunk. There were no signs of forced entry or a struggle within the home. Decades have passed since Hazel Klug's disappearance, and her case remains unsolved. Foul play is suspected by investigators, who do not believe a serial abductor was involved. At one point, a suspect, Robert A. Elms, was identified in her disappearance and probable murder. The family of Hazel has endured immense pain and uncertainty over the years; her parents and two of her sisters have passed away without ever knowing what happened to their loved one. The investigation into Hazel's disappearance is ongoing, a cold case that holds the lingering hope of one day bringing her home and providing answers to her remaining family.
