On August 20, 1978, 17-year-old Melvin Pittman and four of his friends, Randy Johnson Michael McDowell Ernest Taylor and Alvin Turner vanished in Newark, New Jersey. The group, who would become known as the "Clinton Avenue Five," were last seen after playing basketball at West Side Park. They were reportedly seen getting into a pickup truck driven by Lee Anthony Evans, a local carpenter who sometimes hired them for odd jobs.
