In the autumn of 1981, Kathryn Marie Rahe was a vibrant 24-year-old woman building a life in Spokane, Washington. Known to her friends and family as Kathy, she was a dedicated and gifted nurse who worked in the neonatal intensive care unit at a local hospital. Ambitious and intelligent, she was also pursuing another degree and was enrolled in a graduate-level statistics course. Eighteen months prior to her disappearance, she had married and lived with her husband on South Tekoa Street. The last confirmed sighting of Kathryn by multiple people occurred on the evening of November 3, 1981, when she attended her statistics class. Her husband, however, reported that he last saw her on the morning of November 4th, after they returned from a shopping trip. He stated that he left for his job as a radio disc jockey around 11:20 a.m., and Kathryn has not been heard from since. Concerns for Kathryn's welfare began to mount when she failed to arrive for her 2:00 p.m. shift at the hospital. This was highly uncharacteristic of the dependable nurse, causing immediate alarm among her colleagues. Despite this, she was not officially reported as a missing person to the police until the following morning. The investigation into her disappearance began, and two days after she was last seen, her vehicle was discovered parked on a street a couple of blocks from her home, a location that was considered unusual for her to use. In the wake of her vanishing, Kathryn's distraught friends and family rallied together, raising funds for a reward and hiring a private investigator to aid the official efforts of the Spokane Police Department. Decades have passed, but the case of Kathryn Rahe's disappearance remains unsolved. No one has been charged in connection with her case, and her body has never been found. Her loved ones believe she was a victim of homicide and is deceased. Remembered as a gifted student and a dedicated nurse, her family established the Kathy Rahe Memorial Scholarship Fund to support undergraduate nursing students, creating a lasting legacy in her honor. The overview of the case is one of sudden and unexplained tragedy: a young woman, with a promising career and future, vanished without a trace from her daily life, leaving behind a family with unanswered questions and an investigation that has grown cold over time.
