In the late summer of 2010, Heather Lynn Higgins, a 39-year-old woman with a compassionate spirit, was navigating a challenging period in her life in Spokane, Washington. A student at Eastern Washington University, she was in the process of moving into a new apartment. Life took a difficult turn when she was hospitalized for a mental health episode related to her bipolar disorder. During her hospital stay, her previous apartment was burglarized, and the money she had saved for her new home was stolen. Determined to secure her new place, she planned to pawn some jewelry to make up for the loss. On September 20, 2010, due to a probation condition for a previous DUI, Heather was not allowed to drive. A neighbor suggested she get a ride from an acquaintance, Robert G. Davis. He picked her up in his distinctive blue minivan with wood paneling on the sides. Heather was last seen leaving her apartment complex on the lower South Hill to run this errand, carrying her purse and a backpack or duffel bag. The days that followed Heather's disappearance were filled with a deafening silence. Her mother, Jackie Forney, grew increasingly worried when she couldn't reach her daughter. A visit to Heather's apartment revealed that her beloved cats, car, and personal belongings were all left behind. There was no activity on her cell phone or bank accounts. Robert Davis, the man who gave her a ride, claimed he dropped her off at her apartment later that day but admitted he never saw her go inside. This marked the beginning of a long and painful search for answers for Heather's family. Her mother tirelessly handed out flyers, spoke with people in the community, and created a Facebook page to keep her daughter's story alive, all while grappling with the fear of the unknown. The Spokane Police Department began an investigation, which they soon deemed suspicious. As the investigation into Heather's disappearance continued, a dark connection to another case began to emerge. The man last seen with Heather, Robert G. Davis, had a criminal history, including sex crimes. In a chilling confession to his own mother, Davis claimed that two men had killed Heather and forced him to dispose of her body off a cliff north of Spokane. His mother, unsure if his story was a drug-induced delusion, later contacted police after learning about the death of another young woman, Kala Williams, whose body was found in a sleeping bag, similar to how Davis described disposing of Heather's remains. Davis became the prime suspect in Williams's murder after his DNA was found on her body. Despite this, and his connection to Heather's case, he was not immediately charged in either. Further investigation into Heather's case revealed that the day after she went missing, Davis had pawned six rings, one of which was a distinctive ring belonging to Heather's mother. Tragically, before he could be charged in connection with either case, Robert G. Davis died in late 2025 from a medical event, leaving the families of both Heather Higgins and Kala Williams without the chance for full justice. The case of Heather Higgins remains a story of a vibrant life cut short and a family's enduring search for closure in the face of immense loss and unanswered questions.
