In the community of Bellingham, Washington, concern grew for a 13-year-old girl named Ariel Feliciano when she was reported missing in December of 2022. The Washington State Patrol, in conjunction with the Lummi Nation Police, issued a Missing Indigenous Person Alert to seek the public's help in locating the young teen. After a period of uncertainty and community-wide efforts to find her, the alert for Ariel was canceled in early January 2023, as she had been located. This would unfortunately not be the last time that family and authorities would be searching for Ariel, marking the beginning of a recurring and troubling pattern for the young girl. Over the next few years, a series of similar alerts would be issued for Ariel. In early 2024, at the age of 14, she went missing after leaving Ferndale, prompting another Missing Person Alert issued by the Washington State Patrol on behalf of the Lummi Nation Police Department. Once again, to the relief of those searching for her, the alert was canceled a few days later when she was found. The cycle of fear and relief repeated itself later that year. In December 2024, a Missing Indigenous Person Alert was issued out of Stevens County for a then 15-year-old Ariel. She had last been seen near Loon Lake, reportedly wearing a black hoodie and jeans, and it was believed she might be traveling toward Lummi Nation. The following month, in January 2025, another alert was raised. Ariel, still 15, was reported missing from Bellingham after she was seen getting into an early 2000s dark blue Honda in the 1700 block of Ellis Street. She was described as wearing a gray sweatshirt, gray Adidas pants, and carrying a camo backpack at the time. The continued disappearances highlight a distressing situation for the young Indigenous teen. By January 2026, at the age of 16, Ariel was once again the subject of a Missing Indigenous Person Alert when she was last seen in the Bellingham area wearing a red hoodie and blue ripped jeans. Each time an alert was issued, the community was mobilized, and law enforcement, including the Washington State Patrol and local police departments, actively sought information from the public. The repeated instances of Ariel Feliciano going missing underscore a vulnerable period in a young person's life and reflect the ongoing crisis of missing and murdered Indigenous people. The overview of this case is one of a recurring cycle of a young girl disappearing and being found, with multiple law enforcement agencies and communities involved in the repeated efforts to bring her home safely.
