In the coastal city of Newport News, Virginia, a family's life was forever altered in the autumn of 2023. Sherree Denise Brown, a 50-year-old woman, was last seen on October 17th. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as a Black female, standing 4'11" and weighing around 90 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She has distinct tattoos on her left arm of the names “Alexus” and “Zariah.” When she was last seen in the 800 block of Daphia Circle, she was wearing gray jogging pants, a sleeveless pink blouse, and a black du-rag on her head. Compounding the family's deep concern, Sherree was battling stage four breast cancer and required ongoing medical attention. The days leading up to Sherree's disappearance were fraught with fear. She had confided in her daughter that just ten days prior, she had been assaulted by a man who pulled her into his truck. She managed to escape, but the terrifying incident left her shaken. On the very day she was last seen, she recounted the harrowing event to her daughter again, adding that the man had also tried to run her over with his vehicle. Her family firmly believes that this individual may be connected to her vanishing. Further adding to the mystery, Sherree's personal belongings, including her purse, phone, and wallet, were all left behind in her apartment. It was completely out of character for her to leave without these essential items or to miss her scheduled medical appointments. The official search for Sherree began when her daughter reported her missing to the Newport News Police Department on October 24, 2023. As weeks turned into months with no word from Sherree, the urgency of the situation grew. On December 4, 2023, the Virginia State Police issued a Critically Missing Adult Alert, also known as an Ashanti Alert, highlighting the credible threat to her well-being due to her health conditions and the circumstances of her disappearance. Despite the efforts of law enforcement, including canvassing areas she frequented and speaking with those who knew her, the case remains unsolved. The investigation has seen the involvement of the FBI and Homeland Security, yet tangible leads have been elusive. The overview of this case is one of a vulnerable woman who vanished under suspicious circumstances, leaving behind a loving family desperate for answers and her vital medication. The unsettling account of a recent assault prior to her disappearance looms large over the investigation, suggesting a sinister connection to her case which remains open and active.
