In the winter of 2003, a mother's growing concern for her daughter, Tammy Louise Churcher, set in motion a missing person investigation that would span provinces and leave a family searching for answers for years to come. Tammy, a 26-year-old mother of three young children, was last known to be in the Cowansville region of Quebec in the fall of 2002, where she had been staying with her boyfriend. Her home was in Courtland, Ontario, and it was her lack of contact for several weeks, including over the Christmas holidays, that deeply unsettled her mother. This prolonged silence was highly uncharacteristic for Tammy, who usually kept in touch with her family. In January 2003, her mother officially reported her missing to the Ontario Provincial Police in Tillsonburg, Ontario, initiating a search for the young woman. The investigation into Tammy's disappearance began in Ontario but soon focused on Quebec, the last place she was known to have been. At the time she went missing, Tammy was described as a Caucasian female with strawberry blonde and red hair, and green eyes. She stood at 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighed approximately 114 pounds. When last seen, she was reportedly wearing a black leather waist-length jacket and tight black cotton pants. She also had a piercing in her belly button. A significant detail about her physical description is that she had metal plates in her body and facial scars on her left side as a result of a serious accident she had been in while pregnant. Years have passed since Tammy Louise Churcher was last seen, and her case remains unresolved, leaving a painful void for her three children, who have since grown up, and the rest of her family. Her cell phone and wallet, items she was said to have always carried with her, have never been located. The Sûreté du Québec is the lead law enforcement agency on her case. While her body has never been found, the ongoing investigation has led authorities to suspect that she was the victim of a homicide that occurred in Quebec. The overview of this case is one of a loving mother whose sudden and complete lack of communication with her family sparked a multi-province investigation that has unfortunately not yet brought the closure her loved ones desperately seek.
