In early 2019, a 25-year-old man named Kristofer Shawn Couture, who had recently relocated from Edmonton to British Columbia for a construction job, vanished, leaving behind a series of perplexing clues. He had moved to the Lower Mainland, drawn by the milder weather and job opportunities. On January 25, 2019, Kristofer went to his new job in Maple Ridge and later visited a Good Life Fitness gym in Burnaby. The last confirmed sighting of him was on January 26, 2019, when he was seen leaving the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. Concern for his whereabouts grew when his family, back in Alberta, could not get in touch with him. The mystery deepened on January 27, 2019, when his vehicle, a Saturn Ion, was discovered abandoned at the popular Elk Mountain trailhead in Chilliwack. An off-duty law enforcement officer first noticed the car, which had a broken rear window. In a confusing turn of events, the vehicle was not immediately connected to a missing person case and remained in the parking lot for several months, during which it was reportedly broken into multiple times before being towed in May. This delay meant that when Kristofer's family was finally notified about the car, months had passed since anyone had last heard from him. By then, the critical window for gathering potential evidence from the vehicle had been severely compromised. In the weeks and months following his disappearance, some of Kristofer's personal belongings began to surface in the hands of others. His bank cards were used for fraudulent transactions. His wallet and identification were found in the possession of individuals with criminal records, and a woman was found with his pay stubs. Despite these discoveries, no direct link to his disappearance could be established. His mother, Eva Couture, has been a tireless advocate for her son, traveling from Edmonton to British Columbia numerous times to meet with investigators and plead with the public for any information. She, along with the Chilliwack RCMP, has made repeated appeals for anyone who might have seen something, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to come forward. The case remains an active investigation, a painful puzzle with a missing centerpiece. The family's search for answers continues, fueled by the hope that someone holds the key to what happened to Kristofer after he was last seen.
