When Liliane returned, her daughter was gone, and the boyfriend initially claimed that Yohanna was with his mother in Washington. This was the first of several conflicting stories that would emerge over the years, marking the beginning of a long and painful search for answers. After a fruitless trip to Washington, Liliane was confronted with a more horrifying explanation from her boyfriend: he alleged that Yohanna had accidentally drowned in the bathtub and that he had buried her. The investigation into Yohanna's disappearance has been fraught with challenges and heartbreak. The boyfriend, Aaron Lewis, was questioned by police but was released due to a lack of evidence. Over the decades, tips and leads have surfaced, offering fleeting moments of hope. In 2006, a woman came forward with a story she had initially told police in 1978 but had recanted out of fear. She claimed to have seen Lewis leaving the apartment with a metal breadbox on the day Yohanna disappeared. This information led investigators to excavate a parking lot in 2014, which had been a wooded area at the time of the disappearance, but the search yielded no results. Another glimmer of hope appeared in 2016 when an American woman, who believed she might be the missing child, contacted Liliane through Facebook. However, DNA testing regrettably confirmed that she was not Yohanna. The passage of time has not diminished the efforts to find Yohanna or the pain of her absence. Yohanna is described as being biracial with brown hair and brown eyes. She has a distinctive Y-shaped scar on her right hand between her index and middle fingers. The case of Yohanna Cyr remains an open and haunting mystery. The conflicting accounts provided by the sole person of interest, combined with the lack of physical evidence, have left her mother and investigators with more questions than answers.
