Friends and family described him as a happy and healthy individual with a vibrant social life and strong ties to his relatives in both Halifax and his native Cape Breton. There were no indications that he was struggling with depression or drug use, and he had no history of disappearing without notice. The evening before he vanished, Darryl had been out socializing with friends. He had made plans to stay at his cousin's apartment on Gottingen Street, even borrowing five dollars and a key. The timeline of Darryl's last known movements adds a layer of concern to his case. He was seen at Club NRG, a gay nightclub on Gottingen Street, at about 1:30 a.m. Roughly two hours later, at approximately 3:40 a.m., his cousin saw him running north on Gottingen Street, in the vicinity of the Marquee Club. He was heading away from the direction of her apartment where he had planned to spend the night. He never made it to his cousin's residence, and he never returned to his own apartment in Dartmouth. From that moment on, there has been no contact with his family or friends. His bank accounts and credit cards have remained untouched since the day he disappeared, a detail that deeply troubles his loved ones. The years following Darryl's disappearance have been marked by a painful search for answers by his family. His parents, who had tragically lost their daughter to cancer on Mother's Day nine years prior, were devastated by their son's vanishing. They organized extensive searches, distributed flyers throughout Halifax, and even hired divers to search the harbor, all to no avail.
