In the final days of 2022, concern grew for a 28-year-old man from the Swan River area of Manitoba, Thunder Anthony Gott. His adoptive mother reported him missing on December 29, 2022, after not seeing or hearing from him since Christmas Day. Initially, authorities reported that Thunder was last seen in the early hours of December 26, 2022, on Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation, which is located about 50 kilometers north of Swan River. At that time, it was believed he was wearing a light green Columbia jacket, a grey hooded sweatshirt, black pants, and black boots. This initial report launched a period of uncertainty and worry for his loved ones as the days turned into weeks with no sign of him. As the investigation progressed, new information came to light, shifting the timeline of Thunder's last known whereabouts. Swan River RCMP later updated the public that a confirmed sighting placed him walking along Highway 10, approximately half a kilometer north of Birch River, in the mid-morning of January 3, 2023. The description of his clothing also changed with this updated sighting; he was seen wearing a light-colored spring jacket, a grey toque, and running shoes. In response to his disappearance, his family, along with volunteers and leadership from his home community of Sapotaweyak Cree Nation, initiated extensive search efforts. These searches covered vast areas of farmland and woods, utilizing vehicles, snowmobiles, and even a helicopter to scan the landscape, but sadly yielded no clues to his location. The days preceding Thunder's disappearance held a semblance of routine. He had collected his paycheck from work on December 23rd, spent Christmas Eve at home in Shoal River, and departed on Christmas Day. It was after this that communication with his family ceased, leading to the missing person report four days later. The case remains a distressing mystery, marked by conflicting initial reports and a last confirmed sighting that left more questions than answers. The overview of the case begins with a young man leaving home after the holidays, followed by a period of silence, and a final visual on a highway in early January. Police and his family continue to appeal to the public for any information regarding the whereabouts of Thunder Gott, a father of three whose absence has left a profound void in his community.
