In the autumn of 2001, a 38-year-old woman named Susan Yvonne Gourley vanished from the streets of Hamilton, Ontario. She was last seen by a friend in early November in the area of Barton and Stirton Streets. At the time, Susan was described as a white female, 5'7' tall and weighing around 134 pounds, with long, light brown hair that may have been highlighted, and brown eyes. She had several distinct tattoos, including a heart on her chest, a panther on her left thigh, and a tiger on her hip. Other distinguishing marks included three piercings in each ear, a small scar on her forehead, and a scar from an appendix surgery.

Months went by with no word from Susan. Concerned after an unusually long period of silence, her mother officially reported her missing on February 28, 2002. Susan was known to have a history of drug addiction and was involved in the sex trade, and it was not entirely out of character for her to be out of touch for periods of time. However, this prolonged absence was different, sparking serious concern for her well-being. The Hamilton Police Service launched an investigation into her disappearance, and soon began to suspect that she may have met with foul play.

The investigation into Susan Yvonne Gourley's disappearance has now stretched on for years, yet her case remains unsolved. Police have classified her disappearance as a suspected homicide, believing she is a likely victim of foul play. Her case has been linked in media reports to other assaults and murders that occurred in Hamilton around the same time. The Hamilton Police Service's Victims of Crime Unit continues to be the point of contact for any information regarding her case. Despite the passage of time, the search for answers continues for the family and friends of Susan, who disappeared into the night, leaving behind only questions and a lingering sense of loss.
