As soon as Noel was reported missing, a significant search effort was launched in the Northwest. Search and rescue teams from Terrace, Houston, Kitimat, and Prince Rupert converged on the Thornhill area to look for him. The search was extensive, with crews, including a K-9 unit, dedicating nearly 480 hours over 41 separate assignments to scour the region. Their efforts focused on an 1,100-meter radius around Highway 16 and Sharples Road, where a possible sighting of Noel was reported on the day he disappeared.
