On May 18, 1993, a 15-year-old female named Christine Marianne Harron disappeared from Hanover, Ontario. That morning, Christine had stayed home from school because she was not feeling well. Following a disagreement with her mother about returning to school for the afternoon, she left her residence around 1:30 p.m. Christine departed without her purse, money, or school bag. She was last seen wearing a light blue denim jacket, blue jeans, black running shoes, and large, brown-rimmed glasses that were held together with tape. Although there were initial thoughts that she may have run away, her family always believed that something terrible had happened to her, as this was out of character. The investigation into Christine's disappearance continued for years without any significant breakthroughs. Initially, tips and leads were followed, but they eventually dried up. The case grew cold, leaving her family with unanswered questions and a profound sense of loss. A significant development did not come until more than a decade after she vanished. In August 2004, a man named Anthony Edward Ringel was arrested and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Christine's disappearance. This brought a glimmer of hope for resolution to her family and the community. However, due to issues with how evidence was handled, the charges against Ringel were stayed in 2006, and he was set free. Despite this setback, the investigation was reopened years later. In 2013, Anthony Ringel was once again arrested and charged with the murder of Christine Harron. Finally, in October 2016, Ringel pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison. Ringel revealed that he had seen Christine walking in a park, and driven by what he described as "sexual frustration," he took her to a remote area by the Saugeen River and killed her. The case is now considered closed, bringing a long-awaited, albeit painful, conclusion for Christine's loved ones. Although a conviction was secured, Christine's remains have never been located.
