On a summer evening, July 24, 2008, 52-year-old Gordon Keith Harvey was at Cranberry Flats, a recreational area south of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. At about 9:30 p.m., he was seen going into the South Saskatchewan River for a swim. This would be the last time he was seen. When he did not return, a search was started. Those looking for him found his personal items and identification on the riverbank close to where he had last been seen in the water. At the time he went missing, Gordon was described as being 6'2" tall and weighing about 231 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He had several noticeable scars on his right lower back, right chest, left wrist, right forearm, and head. The only clothing he was known to be wearing was a pair of green camouflage shorts. Extensive searches of the area and the river were conducted in the days and years that followed his disappearance, but no sign of him has ever been found. The South Saskatchewan River is known for its strong currents and difficult conditions, which can make search and recovery efforts very challenging. More than a decade has passed, and Gordon Harvey's family is still waiting for answers. His case is still open and is being handled by the Saskatchewan RCMP Historical Case Unit. The annual search of the South Saskatchewan River by the historical case unit has at times included looking for any signs of him, but these searches have not yielded any results. The investigation into what happened to Gordon Keith Harvey remains an active missing person case.
