On August 13, 1967, a fourteen-year-old girl named Sylvia Linda Klayh was with her father and two siblings at their family's cottage on Brereton Lake in Manitoba. Following a verbal disagreement with her father that morning, Sylvia left the cottage around 11:00 a.m. without indicating where she was going. She was last seen wearing an orange and beige striped cotton blouse, blue and green Bermuda-style shorts, and brown sandals. At the time of her disappearance, Sylvia was described as being 5'6" tall, weighing 119 pounds, with a slender build, fair complexion, and long brown hair. When Sylvia did not come back for lunch, her father grew concerned and reported her missing. Initially, her case was treated as a runaway since she had left after an argument. An initial search of the area around the family's cabin by family and other cottage owners did not yield any clues to her whereabouts. Despite extensive searches, no trace of Sylvia or her belongings has ever been found, and she has never made any contact with her family or friends since that day. Over the years, the investigation into Sylvia's disappearance has evolved. With no contact or sightings, the possibility of foul play became a more significant concern. Decades after she vanished, investigators began treating her case as a suspected homicide. The complete lack of evidence has made this a perplexing and enduring mystery for law enforcement and Sylvia's family, who have lived with the uncertainty of her fate for over half a century. The case remains unsolved, a haunting story that began with a family disagreement on a summer day and transitioned into one of Manitoba's long-standing missing persons cases.
