An 80-year-old woman named Rodanthe Lake, who also went by the name of Rhody, vanished on Sunday, November 27, 2005, from Sechelt, British Columbia. A lover of the outdoors, she was familiar with the local trails and had gone for a walk in Sechelt's Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, which was not far from her home. She was reported missing after she did not return from her walk. At the time of her disappearance, she was described as being 5'1" tall and weighing 121 pounds, with a slender build, fair complexion, short grey hair, and blue eyes. She was last seen wearing a blue and yellow vest, brown corduroy pants, a red and orange toque, and brown hiking boots. The last known sighting of Rodanthe was on Sechelt Inlet Road, near the entrance to the park, where she was seen speaking with a tall, older man with gray hair who was wearing a tan jacket. This unidentified man was also in the company of a medium-to-large-sized dog. Despite extensive public appeals, the man has never been identified. Authorities and search and rescue teams conducted a thorough search of the area, covering more than 40 square kilometers of dense brush in and around the park, but found no trace of her. The circumstances of her disappearance were considered troubling, and while there was no immediate evidence, the possibility of foul play has not been ruled out.
