In the late evening of Saturday, November 9, 2002, 30-year-old David Michael MacDermott was last seen at his residence on Mill Street in Kitchener, Ontario. Earlier that night, he had been out with friends celebrating a birthday in downtown Kitchener. Described as a charismatic and loyal person who enjoyed a vibrant social life, David was known to work various jobs, including construction and hairdressing, and even modeled on occasion. He was a white male, standing 6'1" and weighing approximately 186 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Distinguishing features included a scar on his forehead and a small ladybug tattoo between his shoulder blades. That night, he was reportedly wearing a black leather jacket, a black belt, and black motorcycle boots with buckles. The last time he was seen alive by friends was at the now-closed Club Renaissance, where he was dancing and socializing. The circumstances following David's last known whereabouts are unsettling. He had made plans to pick up some hockey gear from an ex-girlfriend's home at 3 a.m. but never arrived. The following morning, his cousin came to his home to pick him up for a ball hockey game, but David did not answer the door. His car was missing from the driveway, and his dog was found running loose in the neighborhood. A few weeks later, his 1990 Ford Mustang was located parked in a lot near his home. When his sisters went to file a missing person's report, they were initially informed by police that there was an outstanding warrant for his arrest in connection with an alleged assault, which initially categorized him as a "Wanted Person" rather than "Missing." This warrant was later retracted as concern for his well-being grew. For over two decades, David's family has been relentless in their search for answers, firmly believing he met with foul play. His disappearance is considered suspicious by the Waterloo Regional Police, though no arrests have ever been made. The family believes an altercation occurred at his residence the night he went missing, possibly resulting in an accident and a subsequent cover-up. In recent years, they have publicly called for police to conduct a more intensive search of the property where he was last seen, specifically requesting the use of ground-penetrating radar. They launched an online petition to garner community support for a search warrant, as the current homeowner has not granted permission for a search. Despite the passage of time, the case remains an open and active investigation, a painful and unresolved chapter for a family still hoping to bring David home and find the peace of a final goodbye.
