In the late afternoon of March 12, 2010, a 23-year-old man from Coquitlam, British Columbia, named Shaun Chris MacDonald-McLaughlin, vanished. Accounts of his last known whereabouts vary slightly; one report indicates he was last seen at a friend's residence in Vancouver, while another states he left a friend's home in Burnaby with the stated intention of visiting his mother in Coquitlam. He did not have a car and it is thought he planned to use public transportation for his journey. Shaun never reached his mother's house, and two weeks later, on March 27, 2010, he was officially reported as a missing person to the Coquitlam RCMP. At the time of his disappearance, Shaun was described as being 5'11" tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds, with brown eyes, long brown hair, and a full beard. Shaun's disappearance is made more concerning by his personal struggles. He had been diagnosed with mental health issues, and there was concern that he may have discontinued his medication prior to when he went missing. Friends and family knew him as a sensitive person who found it difficult to be in large crowds or public spaces. Before he vanished, those close to him noticed he had lost a significant amount of weight, was not eating regularly, and was isolating himself in his room. Further insight into his state of mind came from an ex-girlfriend who reported receiving numerous calls from him while she was at work. When she returned his call, he expressed that he needed her help and made a disturbing request for items including rope, body bags, gasoline, and lighter fluid, which she believed were signs of his delusions. She did not contact his family or the police about this call. Years have passed since Shaun MacDonald-McLaughlin was last seen, and the trail for investigators has grown cold. Despite public appeals for information by the RCMP, no new leads have emerged to shed light on what happened to him. His bank account has remained untouched, and he did not have a cell phone or use a computer at the time he went missing, making it even more challenging to trace his movements. The case has been featured in the media, including on the television show "Investigation Discovery's Last Seen Alive," in the hopes of generating new information. The lack of any evidence or contact has left his family and friends with unanswered questions, and the case of Shaun's disappearance remains an ongoing mystery.
