On September 15, 1993, a 30-year-old Indigenous man named Thomas Robert Spence set out on what was intended to be a commercial fishing trip in the vast wilderness of Manitoba, Canada. Accompanied by two other men, Spence departed from Norway House, their destination being Wuskwatim Lake. At the time of his disappearance, he was described as being 5'8" tall and weighing 161 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He was reportedly wearing blue jeans and a t-shirt on that fateful day. The journey was one that many in the region undertook, venturing into the rich fishing grounds to make a living, but for Spence and one of his companions, it would be their last. The hopeful atmosphere of the fishing trip turned to one of survival in a matter of moments. Despite these extensive efforts, the bodies of Thomas Robert Spence and the other man who perished were never recovered from the vast and unforgiving landscape. The case remains a painful memory of a day that began with the promise of work and ended in tragedy, leaving behind unanswered questions and a profound sense of loss.
