In the quiet, early hours of a February morning in 1998, a 20-year-old college student named Steven Vincent Mylan departed from his family's home in Mississauga, Ontario. It was just after midnight on February 13th when he drove away in his black two-door 1991 Chevrolet Beretta, leaving his family unaware that this would be the last time they would ever see him. A student of business at Humber College's north campus in Toronto, Steven was described by his family as a responsible young man, making his sudden and unannounced departure highly uncharacteristic. Prior to leaving, he had mentioned an interest in traveling to the United States to purchase a new over-the-counter medicine for hair loss. His family could not have known the troubling and mysterious path that lay ahead in the search for their son. The day after Steven left his Mississauga home, his Chevrolet Beretta was recorded by American customs officials crossing the Rainbow Bridge into the United States from Canada. However, it has never been definitively established if Steven was the one driving the vehicle at the time. The trail then went cold for a few days until his car was found abandoned under bizarre circumstances near the Little Colorado Gorge Overlook at the Grand Canyon in Arizona. The keys were still in the ignition, and a man who discovered the car admitted to taking it and driving it for several months until it broke down. It wasn't until June 8, 1998, nearly four months after his disappearance, that Steven's car was officially found by authorities. By this point, it had been stripped and was parked off State Route 64 in Flagstaff, Arizona, where it had apparently been for a considerable amount of time. An extensive search of the Little Colorado Gorge area where the car was initially abandoned yielded no clues as to Steven's whereabouts. His family was left with no explanation for his disappearance, stating that it was entirely out of character for him to leave without any warning. At the time he was last seen, Steven was described as a white male, 5'10" and 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a black velvet v-neck sweater, a waist-length black nylon jacket with a sheep's wool collar and lining, a brown corduroy hat, and a gold chain with a small watch pendant. He was also carrying a black canvas backpack. The case remains an unsolved and painful mystery for his family and is being investigated by Canadian authorities. The overview of this case is one of a young man with a stable life who vanished without a trace, his car taking a strange journey across the country, only to be found abandoned, leaving more questions than answers in its wake.
