In the early summer of 1979, a man named James Gordon Nevin embarked on a journey from his home in Amherstburg, Ontario. He was 68 years old at the time and intended to spend two weeks visiting his grandson in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and his son in Prince George, British Columbia. Unbeknownst to his relatives, who were not expecting his arrival, this trip would become the start of a long and troubling mystery. Mr. Nevin was last seen sometime between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on June 8, 1979. His last known whereabouts were in the vicinity of St-Lazare, Manitoba. The first indication that something was amiss came on June 14, 1979, when the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) were called to the scene of an abandoned vehicle. The car, a 1974 Dodge Coronet with a distinctive white and maroon coloring, was found in a ditch in the area between Rocanville, Saskatchewan, and St. Lazare, Manitoba. Investigations would later reveal that the vehicle had likely been at that location since June 8, 1979, the same day Mr. Nevin was last seen. This discovery triggered an extensive search effort. Both the ground and the air were scoured for any sign of the missing man, but these searches yielded no clues as to his whereabouts. James Gordon Nevin was described as a Caucasian male, standing approximately 73 inches tall and weighing 174 pounds, with a medium build and a fair complexion. He had short, white hair and blue eyes. Distinguishing marks included a scar on his right thumb from a skin graft, a scar on his chest, and a gall bladder scar on his right abdomen. At the time he was last seen, he was wearing light brown pants. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance have led investigators to not rule out the possibility of foul play. To this day, the case of James Gordon Nevin remains unresolved, a lingering question in the vast landscape where he was last seen. The discovery of his abandoned car in a ditch marks the last known trace of his journey, leaving his family with unanswered questions and a profound sense of loss.
