In the summer of 2012, a quiet, elderly man named Alfred Peter Sassin vanished from his downtown Vancouver home, leaving behind a void of information and a community of concerned individuals. At 78 years of age, Alfred was a man of routine and habit. He was last seen on July 9, 2012, leaving his residence in the bustling heart of the city. A Caucasian man, he stood at five feet eight inches tall, weighed around 155 pounds, and had white hair and blue eyes, often wearing glasses. His typical attire consisted of jeans and a casual collared shirt. Alfred was known to be a man who kept to himself, a familiar face in certain downtown locales. He was fluent in both English and German and, as far as police were aware, had no pressing health concerns that would explain his sudden absence. Concern for Alfred's well-being began to grow when the caretakers of his residence noticed he had not been seen for over a week, which they found highly unusual. They officially reported him missing to the Vancouver Police on July 16th. This concern was amplified when it was discovered that Alfred had missed an important appointment, an act described as being very out of character for him. Friends also voiced their worries, stating that his unexplained departure was unlike him. His daily life was simple and predictable; he was a frequent user of public transit and often spent his days at the Vancouver Public Library and other places in the downtown area. In response to his disappearance, the Vancouver Police Department launched an investigation. Authorities conducted searches in the areas around his home and checked with various agencies and services he might have used. These inquiries included public transit authorities, other Metro Vancouver police departments, local taxi companies, and area hospitals, but none of these efforts yielded any clues as to his whereabouts. Despite the public appeals for information and the efforts of law enforcement, no sign of Alfred Sassin has ever been found. The case grew cold, with few details available to shed light on what might have happened after he walked away from his home that July day. His disappearance remains an unresolved mystery, a quiet man's story that ended without a final chapter.
