On July 27, 1997, 52-year-old Mike Leon Tsannie was last seen on Wollaston Lake in Saskatchewan. He was traveling by boat across the vast and remote lake, a familiar activity in the northern community. At the time of his disappearance, he was wearing a green and black Hatchet Lake bank jacket, blue jeans, and brown Kodiak hiking boots. He also had on a maroon ball cap with "Neighbour Ford, Shellbrook, SK" on it and was believed to have a pair of green rubber fishing pants with suspenders with him. The last sighting of him was on the water, navigating the lake as he likely had done countless times before.

The circumstances surrounding Mike Tsannie's disappearance became alarming when his boat was discovered adrift and unoccupied on Wollaston Lake. This discovery prompted immediate concern from his family and the community, leading to searches of the lake and surrounding areas in an attempt to find him. Despite these efforts, no trace of Mike Tsannie was found. The vastness of the lake and the rugged, dense wilderness that characterizes the region presented significant challenges to those searching for him. The official investigation was handled by the Saskatoon RCMP Historical Case Unit.

Over the years, the case has grown cold, yet the memory of Mike Leon Tsannie has not faded for those who knew him. His disappearance remains an open wound for his loved ones and a somber mystery in the history of Wollaston Lake. The discovery of his empty boat is the last known clue in a case that has spanned decades without resolution. The official record of his disappearance is a brief and poignant account of a man who ventured out onto the water one summer day and never returned, leaving behind unanswered questions and an enduring sense of loss.
