In the late summer of 2020, 34-year-old Cory Ryan Westcott, a man known for his charismatic yet complex personality, vanished from the area of Nelson, British Columbia. He was last seen on August 31, 2020, in the community of Bonnington, just a ten-minute drive from Nelson. Friends and family grew concerned when they were unable to reach him, which was out of character. This concern led to him being reported as a missing person to the Nelson Police on September 4, 2020. Westcott is described as a Caucasian male, standing five-foot-ten and weighing around 209 pounds, with a muscular build, shaved light brown hair, and hazel eyes. He is heavily tattooed, with ink on his neck, face, and hands, including two teardrop tattoos under his right eye and an anchor tattoo under his left. When last seen, he was wearing a black t-shirt, white pants, black shoes, and carrying a multi-colored Supreme brand side-bag.

The days following Westcott's disappearance were filled with distressing discoveries and a growing sense of unease. On September 7, 2020, his grey 2007 Toyota Tundra pickup truck was found abandoned with the keys still inside on Rover Creek Forest Service Road near the Kootenay Canal. This location was described as a less-traveled dirt road that leads to nowhere and is in the opposite direction of his home in Nelson. An extensive search of the canal was conducted by boat with sonar equipment and divers, but these efforts yielded no clues as to Westcott's whereabouts. His mother believes the placement of the truck may have been a diversion. The disappearance is considered suspicious, and authorities have not ruled out the possibility of foul play.

The investigation into Cory Ryan Westcott's disappearance has been ongoing, with the case being transferred from the Nelson Police Department to the Nelson RCMP to continue the search for answers. Those who knew him describe a man of contradictions; he was a generous and friendly individual with a strong Christian faith, who also battled with addiction. He had aspirations of establishing an addiction treatment center in the Nelson area. In the years since he was last seen, there have been public appeals for information, but the case remains unresolved. The circumstances surrounding his last known hours and the discovery of his abandoned vehicle paint a concerning picture, leaving his family, friends, and the wider community with lingering questions and a deep sense of loss.
