In the quiet community of Kasilof, Alaska, a boating trip on September 13, 2026, turned into a distressing search for 67-year-old Charles Nikolas. That Sunday, Mr. Nikolas was on the Kasilof River with his stepdaughter when an encounter with a "sweeper," a river obstacle such as a fallen tree, knocked them both from their boat.
