On August 8, 1985, 32-year-old John J. McMahon, Jr. was involved in an aircraft disappearance near Glennallen, Alaska. He was aboard a Maule M-5-235C aircraft that had departed from a sandbar near the Bernard Glacier. The plane was scheduled to return to Jakes Bar Airstrip to retrieve a passenger who had been dropped off earlier, but it never arrived.
