On the morning of January 4, 2017, 32-year-old Reshaunda Therace Gerald was seen for the last time in Norfolk, Virginia. Her mother witnessed her getting into a black Nissan Altima with her ex-fiancé, Mark Morgan, from the 1500 block of Kennon Avenue around 8:00 a.m. A devoted mother of three, Reshaunda had told her family she was going to pay a water bill and promised to be back by the afternoon to pick up her children from school. At the time of her disappearance, she had black hair that was dyed blue and was last seen wearing a pink jacket with a fur-lined hood, jeans with a hole in the knee, and pink and black Nike Jordan sneakers. She has a tattoo on her upper chest of wings with the name "Mule" written vertically. The investigation into Reshaunda’s disappearance quickly focused on Mark Morgan, the married man with whom she had been in a complicated and intimate relationship. When questioned by police, Morgan provided a story that was later contradicted by evidence. He claimed he took Reshaunda to pay a bill, then to a car wash in Portsmouth where they were intimate, before dropping her off at an intersection in Norfolk. However, traffic camera footage and cellphone records did not support his account of traveling to Portsmouth. Instead, data from cell towers showed Reshaunda's phone was near Morgan's home in Chesapeake for many hours on the day she vanished. Later that evening, her phone pinged from a location directly across from a hotel where Morgan said he was staying with his wife. As the search for Reshaunda continued, troubling discoveries were made. A search of the Nissan Altima, which belonged to Morgan's wife, revealed a hatchet and a trunk mat that both tested positive for the presence of human blood. The hatchet had been purchased the day after Reshaunda was reported missing. Despite these findings and the inconsistencies in his statements, no arrests have been made in connection with her disappearance. The case is considered a possible abduction, and foul play is strongly suspected. Years have passed without any sign of Reshaunda, leaving her family, including her son who was a teenager at the time she went missing, without answers or closure. The disappearance of Reshaunda Gerald remains an unresolved case, a painful mystery for her loved ones who continue to hope for the truth.
