On February 14, 1985, 18-year-old Paul Rowe and four other crew members disappeared with their fishing vessel in the treacherous waters of Alaska. Rowe, a crewman on the 83-foot vessel named the *Alert*, was last seen in the Shelikof Straits, an area between the Alaska mainland and Kodiak Island. The vessel was reportedly battling severe weather conditions and was observed "making ice" as it headed towards the shelter of Bumble Bay.
