On the night of December 18, 2021, police responded to a home in the 600 block of North Scott Avenue in Belton, Missouri, after a report of a death. Officers found 45-year-old Mattie Eisenbrant inside the residence with fatal gunshot injuries; she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators identified 57-year-old Michael Tate, described as the victim’s boyfriend and a fellow Belton resident, as a suspect at the scene. Tate was taken into custody and, the following day, prosecutors in Cass County charged him with first-degree murder, armed criminal action, and related offenses. He was being held without bond as the case moved into the judicial process.

The initial reports did not provide a motive or a detailed timeline of events leading to the shooting. Does anyone have information about Mattie’s life in Belton or about what happened that night?
