On a late Saturday night in September 2022, Harold Lord Peak III, a 22-year-old Black man from Columbia, was fatally shot while riding as a passenger on Princeton Road in Lexington County, between Ramblin Road and Edmund Highway. His brother, the driver, was wounded and treated at a local hospital; Harold died at the scene. Responding deputies said the surviving brother could not describe the other vehicle or the shooters, leaving few leads early in the investigation.

Investigators say detectives later determined the shooting was an ambush: a group waited until the brothers left and fired at their car as it passed. In June 2024 authorities arrested 25-year-old Chendric Jawan Brown and 26-year-old London Ja Kia Oliver; Brown was charged with murder and conspiracy, and Oliver with conspiracy and accessory before the fact. A third man, 24-year-old Ziyon Ta’hib McKnight, was wanted and then arrested a week later. All three were in custody as of June 2024.
