On August 23, 2021, 42-year-old Gary Pixley was shot and killed at a residence on Thurmond Street in North Augusta, South Carolina. The initial call to North Augusta Public Safety described a home invasion and a shooter who said he acted in self-defense against an intruder.
Investigators found a different picture as witness statements from others in the home contradicted the intruder claim and established that Pixley was known at the residence and had been a regular visitor. The man who fired the shot was identified as 24-year-old Dallan Timothy Thorstenson, who was arrested on charges including murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime as the inquiry continued. Pixley had worked previously at a local IHOP.
What details about that evening could help clarify how Pixley came to be at the Thurmond Street residence and what led to the fatal shooting?
