Charles Miller, 30, was shot outside a residence on Snider Walk on Hilton Head Island on the evening of October 22, 2015. He was taken to Hilton Head Hospital and pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Investigators treated the incident as a homicide and considered armed robbery as a possible motive.
The day after the shooting law enforcement, including the U.S. Marshals Service Southeastern Fugitive Task Force, arrested a 24-year-old man from Bluffton named Brian Allen Jr. at the Magnolia Motel in Hardeeville. A handgun recovered from his motel room was believed to be the same caliber as the weapon used in Miller’s death. Allen was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
The case proceeded to multiple trials. Two juries were unable to reach unanimous verdicts, resulting in mistrials. At a third trial held in January 2018 the jury found Allen not guilty on all charges; his attorney said the verdict reflected insufficient evidence to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Does anyone have information about Miller’s final movements on October 22 or about the Snider Walk area that could help clarify what happened?
