Ann Mureille Fleury, a 30-year-old woman from Fort Myers, FL, tragically lost her life on November 4, 2021. Ann, along with her mother, Jeanne Pierre Charles Andre, was shot and killed in a horrifying incident in their San Carlos Park neighborhood. The events unfolded when Ann's mother was shot first, prompting Ann to run to a neighbor's house for help. Unfortunately, she was also shot and killed in the neighbor's yard.
This brutal act left the community in shock and mourning.
The perpetrator of this heinous crime was identified as Ethan Cartwright, who was Ann's boyfriend. Cartwright was arrested and charged with the murders of Ann Mureille Fleury and her mother. During the investigation, it was revealed that Cartwright had admitted to the killings in a text message to a friend, even sending an image of one of the victims' bodies. This friend then alerted the authorities, leading to Cartwright's arrest. The arrest report also detailed that after the shootings, Cartwright took the couple's two children, aged 2 and 6, to a neighbor's home, where he confessed to the murders.
In June 2024, Cartwright was found guilty on two counts of second-degree murder after a jury deliberated for a few hours. He was subsequently sentenced to life in prison, with both sentences to be served consecutively. Despite the guilty verdict, Ann's father, Remy Fleury, expressed that justice had not been fully served, as the government had taken his grandchildren away, placing them in foster care despite his efforts to adopt them. This added another layer of tragedy to an already devastating situation, leaving the family to cope with the loss and the ongoing legal battles surrounding the custody of the children.
