On the evening of September 25, 2020, a dispute in Capitol Heights, Maryland, ended in the fatal shooting of 31-year-old Tyuan Thornes of Upper Marlboro. Patrol officers responded at about 9:40 p.m. to the 6800 block of Central Avenue and found Thornes outside, unresponsive with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a nearby hospital and pronounced dead a short time later.
Homicide detectives identified a suspect and arrested 19-year-old Damari Anthony Jones of District Heights in connection with Thornes’ death. Jones was charged with first-degree murder and other related counts and was held without bond in the custody of the Department of Corrections. The Prince George’s County Police Department Homicide Unit led the investigation.
If anyone has information about the events on Central Avenue that night or knew Thornes, the investigation could still benefit from additional tips.
