On the evening of May 20, 2015, a court-ordered child visitation exchange in a Waldorf, Maryland, McDonald’s parking lot ended in deadly violence. Twenty-five-year-old Robert Michael Mange, a U.S. Navy reservist, and his pregnant wife Krystal were in their vehicle to pick up her two children from a previous relationship with former Prince George’s County police officer Richard Conway when Caroline Conway entered their car, produced a handgun, and demanded their cellphones. Caroline forced Krystal to call Richard and change the meeting arrangements. When Robert attempted to disarm Caroline, she opened fire; Robert was pronounced dead at the scene and Krystal, seven months pregnant, was critically injured but survived, as did the unborn child.
Investigators concluded Richard Conway had dropped his mother off to carry out the attack, picked her up afterward, and that the firearm used was Richard’s service weapon. Both Caroline and Richard Conway were arrested and charged in connection with the killing; prosecutors described the shooting as a premeditated act tied to the custody dispute. Caroline Conway was convicted by a jury in December 2016 and received life without parole plus 60 years; Richard Conway was also convicted and sentenced to life plus 50 years.
Are there witnesses or family members with details about what happened at the exchange who haven’t been heard from?
