Morgan Carmel Nelson was 24 and a young mother when she was shot in Fort Washington, Maryland, on the evening of September 19, 2006. She died of her injuries three days later on September 22, 2006, prompting a homicide investigation.

Investigators announced an arrest in January 2007: an 18-year-old man, Anthony Craig Hunter, was taken into custody and charged with first-degree murder in connection with Morgan’s killing. The case was then set to move through the criminal justice system.
