In the early hours of February 7, 2021, gunfire erupted in an Elmira neighborhood near West Sixth Street and Johnson Street. Police arrived around 1:13 A.M. and found two men shot outside a residence. One of them, 39-year-old Bashawn Eman Williams, a Black male, was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at a local hospital. The other victim survived serious injuries.
Investigators quickly identified a suspect, Edward Baugh, who had fled the area. A multi-agency search followed, including involvement by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force and assistance from the Hampton Police Department, which led to Baugh’s capture in Hampton, Virginia and his return to New York to face charges.
If anyone in Elmira that night saw the shooting, noticed suspicious activity around West Sixth and Johnson streets, or has information about Williams, please come forward.
