Maria Tran, 42, was fatally shot in her Dublin, California home on September 7, 2022, when an intruder entered the house in the early morning and killed her and her husband, Benison Tran. The couple’s 14-year-old son and other family members were in the home; the teen was awakened by the commotion and witnessed part of the attack. Six people were asleep in the house when the shooting occurred.

The intruder was identified as 24-year-old Alameda County sheriff’s deputy Devin Williams Jr., who had a romantic relationship with Maria that began while she was separated from her husband and developed through their roles at the hospital where she worked as a nurse. Williams fled the scene and turned himself in about 11 hours later in Coalinga. He was charged with two counts of murder with special circumstances, including use of a firearm and multiple murders. The defense argued voluntary manslaughter based on a passionate outburst; the prosecution said the killings were premeditated. The trial revealed the deputy had failed a psychological evaluation yet remained employed, prompting scrutiny of hiring and vetting practices.

Does anyone have information about Maria’s life in Dublin or the hospital where she worked that could help fill in missing details for the family and investigators?
