Cardell Brown, 55, was found dead in his Jackson Avenue residence in New Orleans during the early morning of Thursday, January 31, 2013. The Orleans Parish Coroner confirmed his identity; he had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. A friend said they spoke by phone the previous evening around 9:30 p.m. and that Brown sounded happy.

Authorities did not announce a motive, but friends and neighbors suspected a possible robbery, noting Brown had recently won money playing the lottery a couple of times. As of the initial reports, the New Orleans Police Department had not identified any suspects and the investigation remained ongoing.
