Luis Pinedo, 34, was found dead on July 18, 2020, inside a burning vehicle near Avenue 57 and Pierce Street in Thermal, California. Responding firefighters extinguished the blaze at about 1:40 a.m. and discovered Pinedo’s charred body; the coroner’s office identified him by dental records and later reported evidence of homicidal violence.

A post-mortem found a single gunshot wound to the left side of Pinedo’s head, indicating he was likely deceased before the vehicle was set on fire. Arson investigators determined that a flammable liquid had been poured on the asphalt, which ignited the vehicle, and authorities treated the death as a deliberate homicide.
