Seventeen-year-old Gregory Joseph Sanchez of Coalinga was killed on January 15, 2020. He was a passenger in a Honda Fit traveling south on Highway 145 near Five Points when another vehicle ambushed them and opened fire. Gregory was shot in the lower body; his 18-year-old cousin was wounded in the arm and the driver was uninjured and drove to a nearby California Highway Patrol officer.
Gregory was airlifted to Adventist Medical Center in Hanford and later died of his injuries. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office opened a homicide investigation, calling the shooting gang-related and not random. The Honda Fit showed shattered glass and multiple bullet holes.
No arrests or suspects have been publicly identified and the investigation remains open. If anyone has information about the attack or the vehicle involved, contact the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office.
