Bryan Chavez, a 15-year-old from Santa Ana, California, was found dead from a gunshot wound to his upper body on a street in the 1000 block of West Richland Avenue on September 6, 2018. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene; a gun recovered nearby was believed to be the weapon used.
Investigators arrested a 17-year-old girl from the city of Orange on suspicion of manslaughter and lodged her at Orange County Juvenile Hall; her name was not released because of her age. Police said the teenagers knew each other but did not immediately disclose specific details or a motive. During the initial probe, a man and a woman who were thought to have been with Chavez were detained and a nearby vehicle was considered involved, though it was unclear whether those adults remained in custody or would face charges.
No witnesses to the shooting have been reported; neighbors described hearing a single gunshot. Does anyone have information about Bryan, the people who were with him that night, or the vehicle tied to this case?
