Jessica Lyn Ball, 28, of Shingle Springs, California, was shot and killed on October 4, 2017. The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disturbance around 5:47 p.m. near Mother Lode Drive and Sunset Lane and found Ball deceased from a gunshot wound outside a driveway near vehicles. A man also suffering a gunshot wound was taken to the hospital.
Witnesses said Ball and the man, later identified as her fiancé, were engaged in a heated argument just before a gunshot was heard and Ball fell. After the shooting the man attempted to flee in Ball’s vehicle, collided with a passing truck, and a resident who stopped to help said the man fired two rounds into the windshield before walking to the passenger side and shooting himself in the head. Both Ball and her fiancé had outstanding arrest warrants from San Jose related to questioning in an armed robbery; they were in Shingle Springs visiting a family member and lived together in the Bay Area. The fiancé’s identity and his condition were not immediately released.
The road was blocked for an overnight investigation and a nearby Montessori school closed the next day as a precaution. No additional suspects were being sought. If anyone knew Jessica or witnessed the incident, does the community have details that could help clarify what led to this confrontation?
