It's hard to overstate the impact that Officer Jonathan Matias "JD" De Guzman's tragic death had on his community and fellow officers. One aspect that really hits home for many, including myself, is the incredible bravery he showed in his daily duty—a duty that ultimately cost him his life. Serving in the Gang Suppression Unit must have been demanding and dangerous, yet Officer De Guzman wore his badge with undeniable pride and commitment.
What strikes me most is how his sacrifice is honored, not just in name, but in action. The Jonathan M. de Guzman Memorial Bridge serves as more than a tribute; it's a constant reminder of the life and service of a man who gave everything to protect others. His tragic passing underscores the urgent need to support and protect our brave law enforcement officers as they face ever-present dangers.
My heart goes out to Officer De Guzman’s family, friends, and colleagues. May they find some comfort in the enduring legacy of his service and the respect shown by the community he served so valiantly.
Every time I pass by the Jonathan M. de Guzman Memorial Bridge, I'm reminded of the tremendous impact Officer De Guzman had on our community. It's more than just a structure; it's a testament to his bravery and dedication. Naming the bridge after him was a fitting tribute, but it also serves as a constant reminder of the risks our officers face every day. I didn't know him personally, but from what I've heard, his commitment to his duty and kindness touched so many lives. My thoughts are with his family, who must feel his absence every day. Thank you, JD, for your service and sacrifice. San Diego will never forget.
