I’ve been thinking a lot about Josephine Rocha lately, who was working at Fran's Market back in 1980. She seemed like such a bright young woman, balancing school and a part-time job, just to save up for a car like most teens dream of. It's so haunting to think of the promise her future held and how abruptly it was stolen from her and her loved ones. Sometimes, these stories focus so much on the criminals that we lose sight of who the real victims were. Josephine was just starting out in life, probably imagining her senior year activities, planning for prom, and dreaming about college. Her life was filled with potential—potential that was viciously cut short. While Clarence Ray Allen’s actions were horrendous, it’s crucial to keep the memory of those he hurt alive. As a community, remembering Josephine and considering the implications of what she could have achieved might offer some peace to her memory. To her friends, family, and classmates, your sorrow is felt deeply by those of us following her story. Let’s continue to honor her and the dreams she couldn’t accomplish.
