Mark Hurst, 34, of Sharpes, Florida, died on November 19, 2019 after being shot during a neighborhood altercation on the 300 block of MacArthur Circle, off U.S. 1. The dispute began when Hurst’s teenage son and neighbor Kalab Bradford argued in the street; Bradford’s dog bit Hurst’s son, a dog from Hurst’s property jumped the fence, and the confrontation escalated. Bradford reportedly went into his home, retrieved a gun, and shot Hurst. Hurst was taken to a hospital and later died of his injuries.
The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20-year-old Kalab Bradford and charged him with second-degree murder without premeditation; he was booked into the county jail and held without bond. Neighbors told investigators that fights were not uncommon in the area, but friends and family said the presence of a firearm made this event a tragic escalation. Hurst’s roommate and close friend Keith Smith said Hurst had gone outside to break up the potential fight between his son and Bradford.
Does anyone who lived in Sharpes at the time remember the neighborhood tensions around MacArthur Circle or have information about what led to that night’s escalation?
