On a Memorial Day Monday, May 26, 1986, the children of Satnam Kaur awoke in their Detroit, Michigan, home to a quiet morning. Their father, a taxi driver, had already departed for his day's work, and they assumed their 35-year-old mother was still resting. The normalcy of the holiday morning was shattered when their father returned home for lunch to find his wife gone. The only explanation was a note left on the refrigerator. Written in Punjabi, the message simply stated that she was leaving. This marked the beginning of a decades-long mystery for a family left searching for answers. In the initial days following her disappearance, there was a brief sense of hope when her car, which had been missing, was discovered abandoned a few days later. However, this discovery only deepened the concerns for her well-being. Disturbingly, Satnam had left behind all of her essential personal belongings. Her driver's license, wallet, and purse were all found at her home, items one would typically take if they intended to start a new life elsewhere. This detail suggested a departure that was not planned or voluntary. Satnam was a woman of routine and family, often seen in traditional Indian saris as well as t-shirts and pants. She wore prescription glasses and had her long, black hair typically pulled back. The investigation into Satnam Kaur's disappearance has continued over the years, yet her whereabouts remain unknown. The circumstances surrounding that day in 1986 are unsettling for those who knew her. The note, written in her native language, provided a cryptic and solitary clue in a case with few leads. Her children have grown up without their mother, holding onto the belief that she may be deceased. The case itself is an overview of a sudden departure under perplexing conditions: a mother vanishes from her home on a holiday morning, leaving a short note but taking none of her personal identification or financial means. Her car turning up abandoned days later adds another layer to the enduring mystery of what happened to Satnam Kaur. The Detroit Police Department continues to hold the case file, a silent testament to a family's ongoing search for closure.
